February 23, 2009 – Sun Peaks, BC – Teams will be battling it out at Sun Peaks Resort this weekend in the only Canadian stop an all-mountain adventure for skiers and snowboarders. Sun Peaks Resort is gearing up to host the Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle on Saturday, February 28.
Each team of two (skiers, snowboarders or mixed) will be racing around Sun Peaks on a course designed by well known big mountain skier Chris Davenport. While being tracked by FLAIK GPS devices, teams must cover all of the designated GPS checkpoints, one of which is an inbounds hike! FLAIK GPS is a unique tracking device that provides real time data on each team as they race. Not only will it monitor the time and speed of each person, but it will also ensure teammates stay within 200 feet of each other.
Teams are competing for an all-expense paid trip to Aspen/Snowmass where they’ll square off in the final Battle of the Bowls on March 29, but there are also tons of other prizes up for grabs.
The top three teams who complete all checkpoints, runs and the hill climb in the best time will be awarded prizes from the event sponsors, including Helly Hansen, Dakine and Powder Magazine. Even more prizes will be handed out for teams with the Fastest Hike, Most Vertical, Most Runs, and Most Lift Rides.
The $75.00 registration fee per team includes two Helly Hansen Lifa base layers valued at $45.00 each!
