Chairlift Open
Sunburst Chairlift opens TOMORROW for hiking and mountain biking at Sun Peaks Resort
June 26, 2009 – Sun Peaks, BC – Adrenaline is running high in Kamloops as local mountain bikers anticipate the first day of downhill mountain biking season on Saturday, June 27.
Recognized as one of Canada’s best bike parks, Sun Peaks has raised the bar this year. The 70 kilometres of track, comprised of 39 trails and 255 features, has been manicured and contoured to prepare for opening day. Sun Peaks did a preview of the park to a select pro rides on June 24 to help promote the coming season and Matt Hunter, Specialized Bikes, and Graham Agassiz, Kona Bikes, both gave top marks to the trail maintenance crew. The detailed shaping of jumps, fast berms, and new wooden features all combined for an exceptional ride.
One of the major projects this year was a rebuild on the lower half of Barn Burner, explains Corey Wiwchar, avid rider and Marketing Manager for Sun Peaks Resort Corporation. “On opening day, make sure to check out the seven new berms on Barn Burner, one of which is over six feet tall.”
In addition to mountain biking, hikers are expected in increased numbers over the coming summer months. The global economy has created higher demand for recreational experiences closer to home, and the alpine blossoms are one of the most spectacular attractions in the region. New maps and signs have been developed this year in response to guest feedback last summer.
