Sun Peaks Supports Australian Flood Relief

Sun Peaks, BC (January 26, 2010) – Local businesses at Sun Peaks Resort have teamed up to raise money for our Australian friends who have been affected by the extensive flooding in their country over the past couple of months.

From Cheesemite Scrolls to Aussie Burgers with beet root, egg and pineapple, many village businesses have put together specials to celebrate Australia Day with partial or full proceeds going to the SPIN Newsmagazine Aussie Day Flood Relief Fund.

Donation jars will also be located around the village today, with all proceeds from the jars and from the specials being given to the Premier’s Relief Fund, working in conjunction with the Red Cross.

“Sun Peaks has a long history with thousands of Aussie travellers, workers and homeowners, so it just felt right to do something to help,” said Adam Earle, Publisher of SPIN Newsmagazine. “It’s Aussie Day today, so we thought the fit was perfect. It’s really hard for those so far from home and families that are working and visiting here, so if the community can ease that tension even a little by raising money for their countrymen in need, that’s what giving back is all about.”

You can also donate directly to the Australian Government’s Premier’s Relief Fund at the following link: http://www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html.

Donations will be accepted in the village donation jars until 5:00pm on Saturday, January 30th and all monies raised will be forwarded to the Premier’s Relief Fund on Monday, January 31.
