27 kids (9yrs-16yrs) from Kamloops, the Lower Mainland, Rossland and Hinton have been spending the week at Sun Peaks shredding the Bike Park with Agassiz and Hunter, who is one of the biggest mountain bike freeriders in the world. The 2010 Mountain Bike Freeride Camp wraps up this afternoon.

Hunter, who rides for Specialized Bikes, Shimano, DaKine, and Chromag, has been teaching at the Sun Peaks camp for the last three years. He says it’s the local kids that keep him returning year after year. “This group has lots of kids from small towns and they have a super good attitude.” He also says it’s fun to ride with Agassiz, which is a rare opportunity. “Graham and I don’t get to ride together much in the summer, so that is also really cool.”

Agassiz rides for Kona Bikes, Sombrio, Smith Goggles and Monster Energy Drink. He chose to spend his week at Sun Peaks instead of teaching at the Whistler bike camp. “I did this camp over Whistler so I could be with the local kids and support my local mountain.”

And these kids have been getting a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not only have they been spending the week shredding with Hunter and Agassiz, but DaKine hooked up all of the kids with riding jerseys and shorts.

After the camp wraps up at Sun Peaks, Agassiz heads to Crankworks in Colorado, while Hunter is heading overseas to Indonesia and Spain for events with Specialized. Look for Hunter in Anthill Films’ Follow Me and Graham is featured in NWD 10 Dust and Bones.

Sun Peaks, BC (July 22, 2010) – British Columbia’s Birthday will be celebrated in the natural beauty of the alpine next weekend during the BC Day Family Celebrations at Sun Peaks Resort, July 31 and August 1.

This is a weekend celebrating family and the village will be alive with FREE entertainment and activities. Families can enjoy live music from Shane Philip on the didjeridoo, performances by magician Clinton Gray and Uncle Chris the Clown, plus face painting, a climbing wall and giant inflatable bouncy castles!

A highlight for the weekend is Pirating 101, an interactive comedy show with audience participation. A combination of a written script and improv, laugh along with the actors during physical comedy, sword fighting, and a bull whip demonstration. The Pirating Show takes place on Saturday, July 31 at 11:30am and 12:30pm in the Village Square.

On Sunday, August 1, the attention shifts to the Sun Peaks & Region Farmers’ Market as we celebrate the local farmers, ranchers and artisans who join us weekly in the village. Sign your family up for the Farmers’ Market Olympics, with scarecrow making, corn husking, corn eating, and water balloon competitions!

And back by popular demand after a successful appearance during the Canada Day Celebrations, there will be 5 Star Dog Training Agility Demonstrations from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday, August 1.

This weekend, Sun Peaks brings geocaching to the resort on a slightly smaller scale for the Seek the Peaks Geocaching Weekend, July 24 and 25.

From novice to the advanced, everyone is welcome to experience the beautiful alpine landscape and wildlife while searching for hidden treasures with help from your GPS. Grab your family and friends, pick your event and hit the trails around Sun Peaks!

Learn to Geocache

Join Discover Sun Peaks Adventures for a fun and informative introduction to the popular sport of geocaching. Learn how to use a GPS and how to follow the coordinates for the hidden treasures.

Seek the Peaks – Valley Caches

Over 15 caches will be hidden among the Nordic and Snowshoe trails at Sun Peaks. Pick up your coordinates from the Adventure Centre and head out hunting! Sign the logbooks within the caches and collect the ballots for a chance to win great prizes from Helly Hansen.

Time:                1:00pm

Cost:                Complimentary to enter. $45/day to rent a GPS unit.

Registration:     Not required. Meet at the Adventure Centre at 1:00pm to get your coordinates.

Seek the Peaks – Alpine Caches

Over 30 caches will be hidden along the Sun Peaks alpine hiking trails. Collect small prizes from the hidden caches and ballots for draw prizes at the end of the day. Prizes are also up for grabs for the competitor who is the first to find the most caches!

Time:                10:00am

Cost:                Complimentary to enter, but lift ticket is required (Guest Services). $45/day to rent a GPS unit.

Registration:     Not required. Meet at the base of the Sunburst Chairlift at 10:00am to get your coordinates.

Prizes from the weekend challenges will be handed out on Sunday, July 25 at Masa’s Bar + Grill at 4:00pm.

All participants are required to have a valid hiking lift ticket if they are participating in the Alpine Caches event on Sunday, July 25. Discounted hiking tickets will be offered for this event at Guest Services for participants who show their GPS unit.

Sun Peaks, BC (July 20, 2010) – Over $70,000 in prizes are up for grabs simply for getting a hole-in-one on the Sun Peaks Golf Course during the Nancy Greene Golf Benefit on Friday, August 20.

There are three hole-in-one contests during the 14^th Annual event benefitting the Sun Peaks Health Association with the following prizes: a complete hot tub package from Sun Peaks Aquatics, a 2011 Buick Regal from Zimmer Wheaton GMC, and an African Safari for two, from BFL Canada Insurance Services.

Teams of four players will tee off in an 18-hole Scramble format tournament, followed by a banquet and auction at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort hotel. Steve Darling from Global BC Television is the special guest MC for the event.

The $175 entry fee per person includes 18-holes of golf with a shared power cart, complimentary food and beverages on course, an event souvenir, contests and prizes, and the awards dinner and auction.
